1 Delafield Jr., John An Inquiry Into the Antiquities of America with An Appendix Containing Notes, and "A View of the Causes of the Superiority of the Men of the Northern Over Those of the Southern Hemisphere." By James Lakey, M.D.
Cincinnatti N.G. Burgess & Company 1839 First Edition Full Black Morocco Text Very good- Color Lithographs
SABIN 19333; Howes D226. SIGNED BY HARRY F. THOMPSON. The covers are whole, with the gilt title and Indian design bright and unchipped; there is rubbing at the edges and the corners are worn but a binder can repair these. The spine has a 1" chip at the top and 1/2" chip at bottom, with a closed tear midway; there never was a spine title, and again a binder can relace the leather chips and repair the tear. The front hinge also needs repair. Lacks pp.33-36, 51-52 and plates 6-9. Half of rear endpaper torn away, with a signed inscription above of unknown origin. Text and appendix otherwise complete, with repair to corner of two leaves. The colorplate lithographs are whole and of value in themselves, and suitable for framing. Extremely scarce.
