Internet bookselling pioneer celebrates 20 years in the used and rare book business
Since 1993 Bibliodisia Books (named after a bibliophilic term meaning 'book love' and first coined by Christopher Morley) has served the needs of serious booklovers and libraries all over the world through its website as well as its association with Interloc/Alibris, ABE, and Biblio. Our searchable website, professionally administered and secured by Chrislands with PayPal as its secure payment channel, has allowed more than 20,000 collectors, scholars, colleges and libraries to search all our books directly, completely, and at leisure. Our customers have included the British Museum, Harvard's Widener Library, the Lilly Library of Indiana University, the UCLA Libraries, the respected quality reprint firm of Dover Publications (which has used several of our rarest books in reprints), authors like Civil War historian Peter Cozzens, bibliographers like Pierra Coustillas, and hundreds of serious collectors. Browse our many categories of quality books acquired from important library sales and auctions throughout the Midwest on the right column or search box on this page. In stock are many books from the libraries and collections of Chicago judge and Caxton Club member Abel Berland, journalist/bookseller Kenan Heise, Western historian Richard Van Orman, Ebony Magazine publisher John H. Johnson, bookseller/author Ralph G. Newman, labor historian Virgil E. Vogel, Lincoln biographer and collector Carl E. Wahlstrom, and many other notables. Also included are large purchases from legendary old bookstores such as Herbert Furse-Bookman, the Old Bookseller (Harry Busck and Charlie Shields's Oak Park store), the Book Stop of Lake Villa, Storeybooks Antiques and Books of Sycamore, Titles, Inc., Bookman's Alley, and the Aspidistra Bookstore.
We are certified members of the International Online Booksellers Association (IOBA). Since 1997 we also have been members of the Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association (MWABA, formerly the Midwest Bookhunters) and have exhibited at their Chicago and Minnesota fairs, as well as at Chicago's annual Printer's Row Book Fair and the 57th Street Children's Book Fair. Our 25,000-book stock may be viewed by special appointment at our private premises. Our stock is varied and of high quality, being comprised mainly of hardcover first editions in the best available condition for their age. Over 80% of the stock is out-of-print pre-ISBN hardcover books in the Humanities, but we also stock hard-to-find back issues of important periodicals, vintage paperbacks, sound recordings, and quality prints. You will find our prices significantly and consistently lower than what you see elsewhere. We also offer periodic discounts, and will consider reasonable offers for our higher-priced books.
We buy books at competitive prices. See our Location and Hours page on the left-hand column for visiting information. If you sell to us, we will usually travel within a 20-mile radius to view your books at no charge, with free removal if we buy. As always, our hearing impairments require that Ofelia and I communicate by e-mail, or that you e-mail us your phone number so we can have one of our daughters call you back.
Come and visit us for a quiet, pleasant hour of browsing and book chat in our comfortably spacious book rooms!
